Exemplary Middle School IBED Activities and Videos
All activities shown on this page were developed by individual middle school teachers during the Math and Science Partnership between Virginia Tech and Montgomery County Public Schools (Grant APR number: VA110317).
Each activity has a link to a corresponding short YouTube video (~10-15 minutes in length) of it being implemented in middle school classroom, a link to the lesson in the IBED template, and a link to the student activity sheet.

Example 1: Recycle My Stuff
Open-ended Problem: In their role as engineers, students must develop a sorting process to separate a pile recyclable items by their respective material.

Example 2: Underwater Camera
Open-ended Problem: Students, working as engineers, must design and prototype a small-scale neutrally buoyant underwater camera system.

Example 3: Embedded Seed Fabric
Open-ended Problem: Students, working as engineers, must recommend a fabric type that seeds could be embedded into in an effort to prevent erosion near roadways.
